Well said, Joe! I say let a grand jury decide if Zimmerman should stand trial. police officers face a review board when they use deadly force. If Zimmerman has nothing to hide he should welcome the chance to clear his name. I just hope the radicals and hate mongers flocking to Florida don't end up inciting a repeat of what we saw in California after the Rodney King fiasco. With tempers flaring the way they are and the number of guns in private hands, both legally held and illegal, I shudder to think of what may come of this.

As seems to be usual in these current days in our society, we may never know the "real truth" behind this entire assiignation. It seems to me from reading several of the reports that are linked to this story, that the person in the upper story of the apartment building who saw the moments BEFORE the shot may be the only credible and/or actual witness. As for other "witness" reports, they appear to be inconclusive and also incomplete! The tendency for today's "instant replay" in regards to reporting means that we do not have a concise picture of what happened. But it also means we cannot overlook the fact that a neighborhood watch needn't EVER carry a gun. They are suppoised to report to REAL police any suspicious circumstance, and NOT to confront the suspect. However, in the rush to judgement we have more confusion than facts, more may-bes than actualities, and far too much reaction without proper police work being done. If there is something that the police have not released, or some witness who now feels that they might be too much in the spotlight of attention, then we are left with more presumptions that do NOT add up to any proof at all.
What I would point out from this situation is that reporting today is very bad. There are opinion polls being taken by the media BEFORE all the facts and REAL reports are in. Any person reading about this incident should have NO REAL opinion of the outcome — because all the FACTS are not there. Besides, the "man in the street" is not the police, not in possession of ALL the FACTS, due to a lack of confirmation by today's reporting standards (if we can actually use that word anymore!). Public outcry and opinion polling by people who MAKE UP THE NEWS as much as they "report" it, does not produce a healthy society. Let the police do their work; let a proper investigation gather ALL the facts that can be found, and then let a legal system do its job. (The police in this case have also acted too quickly in making a statement that they found no reason to hold the neighborhood watch person for further qurestioning. The mere fact that he carried a gun, when none was warranted is cause for investigation.)
If we have no faith in the legal system as it stands today, then why should we prosecute someone "In the court of public opinion"?? If there is a problem, let it be corrected through the laws that now stand, or fix the laws through the legal process. A wise man and/or woman once said: "Opinions are like assholes — everyone has one". This means that unless we are picked for a jury and presented with ALL the facts in a rational manner in a court of law, that NO "opinion" should prevail in determining someone's guilt or innocence.
When we circumvent the due process — for ANY reason — we cannot clearly make an unbiased judgement. I think this is what has come out of this tragic situation. That said, I almost feel like there is much more that needs to be done in regards to allowing PROPER police procedure, and a great deal less in regards to uninformed reactions.

A picture of someone urinating on the chalk protest statements would make a good staement as well! Would they put that one in the paper? Just kidding. Of course not. The paper must remain in good taste — or is that a matter of opinion as well?
Overall I too support proper Police work — always have. If someone wants to protest, get a Big Stick and a Poster Board and write your opinion of on that and carry it around — AFTER you've gotten a permit to do so! (Please dispose of properly after use...)

I shall take a side to the "noise violation" issue. NO ONE has the right to inflict their way of life on others. Loud and (especially) obnoxious music (rap w/4-letter words) is not for my ears, and the inconsiderate a-hiole that runs his Obnoxious Jukebox through my neighborhood will get a complaint — and hopefully a ticket to remind him of my right to a peaceful existance! No one has the right to upset the peace and tranquility of the common ground. That is why GOD invented earphones (and/or headphones... your choice)! So that you can create your own deafness without harming others. It is the same thing as other public displays that are not allowed, and for good reason. If you think otherwise, then PLEASE — go on texting while driving. Hope you have a singular vehicle accident! Do you not understand that you might KILL someone with your carelessness?? Go ahead and try to hook up your cell phone and dial while driving.... (See Above.) And yes. Your inability to hear can compromise your safety as well as the safety of other you are driving with/slongside/in front of/behind of, etc. Common sense is no so common anymore, and this desire to create havoc through tooting your own horn (so to speak) is just another example of the lack of responsibility and respect in today's society. So when you get your ticket (in many cities you easily will!), you only have yourself to blame. You are violating other people's rights.

The GOP makes a big deal out of the deficit, and it plays well, especially when compared to the family. If you were in debt, you would pay it down. But you would also consider, getting a second job (taxes), investing in some education (infrastructure), as well as just cutting your budget. Good economists will tell you that a deficit is money we owe ourselves. It is not as important as the family budget. It is not "owed" to any country by and large. It is much more important to through stimulus and infrastructure investments, to get people to work so they can accumulate money, spend it, and increase the desire for products which then cause businesses to hire. Thanks for the link too!

Well thought out~! Very good article~! I remember a time in the 1970's when GM (yes, that General) used to pay dividends especially to their VP's. I'm not certain of the year, but Pontiac lost a huge amount one year (probably not the year of the GTO!) and STILL their VP of Operations got a $150,000 bonus — for FAILING! Is it any wonder this system does more harm than good? Salaries and bonuses are far too high for people to underperform! Take, for example, Congress... It is hard to tell what their "work" costs us, because they haven't been doing ANYTHING!! Do we have a balanced budget? No. But the bank that loans you money says that YOU HAVE TO HAVE ONE! What makes them "Special"? THEY DO! DO NOT allow Congress to give themselves pay raises! Can you imagine what life would be like if that is all we needed to do to make more money? — Just VOTE OURSELVES SOME!! Really??
Which should leave some room for further discussion... Thanks for listening.
