A Duty to the Public?

If you think the Police are there to protect you, and you believe they have some DUTY to do such, then this article is something you should look at: “Just Dial 911/The Myth of Police Protection“.

Over the years various courts, including the U. S. Supreme Court, have said that Law Enforcement agencies have no Constitutional Duty to protect an individual….  There is in fact nothing that says they even have to come when you call…

I was thinking about this and a video came to mind..  It was from a “gun” shop.  I don’t remember the name though.  What they said was something like “when danger is at your door remember, the Police are just minutes a way”.

As the criminal actions of a few people get all the press we rarely hear about the many people who have defended themselves with the use of firearms.  The most likely reason for this is because the idea of you defending yourself does not sit well with the people who want to extend the reach and authority of the government….  They want to see a time when a helpless public will turn to the government for everything.  If you want to see how useful this idea is just look at recent news.  The TSA often does security test at various airports and, recently, they did one where a tester was able to get on a plane with a fake bomb stuck in his pants…  If he had, by chance, carried some bottled water we would be safe from getting splashed but, in this case it represented a “simulated” threat it was undetected…

I will repeat something that I have said before.  If you want to see the logic of this administrations consider, again, the words of Janet Napolitano who said, after the underwear bomber was grabbed by passengers when he was unable to explode his device, “it just proves the system works”.  The system work when these threat are found BEFORE they get on the plane.  To put this into context that the average person would understand I will use the example of a bank robber..  The robber goes into the bank, pulls out his semiautomatic and demands money from the teller.  When the teller does not give it to him he points said weapon at her and fires.  The pistol misfires and he is grabbed by several of the customers, Police Chief Janet Napolitano explains at a press conference that the system works and the perpetrator was arrested.  Even though they had NOTHING to do with it, and had been unable to detect the person with the firearm.

It seems that we have come to rely, more and more, on government to protect us, and yet more and more people feel the need to arm themselves.  I am not going to get into the accuracy of CNN but, according to a CNN website timeline of the Sandy Hook elementary School shooting the first 911 calls were at about 9:30am and it took Law Enforcement 20 minutes to get there…  So, the next time you think you hear someone out in your yard and are thinking about calling 911 remember this : it took them 20 minutes to get to a public school, large enough to hold 600 students, in a known locations so, how long is it going to take to find your house.  If they decide to come at all.

Consider this old joke.  What is the best way to destroy the narcotics trade?  Put the Government in charge…

Thanks,

That Joe Guy.

Ex SSgt in Air Force Security Police... I had 10 years of active duty and inactive reserve. I have a total of 20 years, includes Air Force SP, security experience. I also worked 8 years and 4 months in the Garden Center of the Sarasota Cattleman Walmart. I also took the CCNA class at Sarasota Vo-Tech, when it was still called that. I am now, since 2010 a caregiver for my Mother. While I am now a registered Republican I am more likely to vote for whichever person I believe will do a better job.. In the last presidential elections I voted Libertarian, as I the two main choices seemed to be between lying crook, or an uncouth babler who could not be trusted.

  1. First thing we do is ask them to remove “To Serve And Protect” from ALL Police vehicles. Next we make the latest MILITARY version of a shotgun available to the public — AT A DISCOUNT. This will solve the Police problem. As for the Supreme’s, they couldn’t find a 55-gallon drum in a Fiat 500 — much less make a genuinely positive decision on people’s rights!! They’re all leftist liberals who know less about the Constitution than the next Legal Alien taking the oath!
And BTW, the BBC had better coverage of Sandy Hook than CNN did! Gosh — I hope that does NOT surprise you!
