Am I missing something?

It seems that some people are saying that Section 4 of the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution would give President Obama the authority ignore the debt ceiling..  Huh?  What it  said was that the public debt was legal and that the states of the former Confederate States of America could not argue that they did not have to help pay for the cost of the War of Northern Aggression, waged by  President Lincoln against the neighboring COUNTRY to the south.  It also disallows the U.S. Debt from repaying the debts of the C.S.A incurred in its defense.

Section 4.

The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned. But neither the United States nor any state shall assume or pay any debt or obligation incurred in aid of insurrection or rebellion against the United States, or any claim for the loss or emancipation of any slave; but all such debts, obligations and claims shall be held illegal and void.

14th Amendment | LII / Legal Information Institute

I see nothing there that would allow him to ignore the debt ceiling..  The important part of it, as pertains to this discussion is where it says “The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law”.  This is simple.

The debt ceiling does not dispute the debt but specifies an amount beyond which the country is not allowed to spend.  I should be seen as saying that this extra debt would not be authorized by Law…

Only a real twist of logic would say otherwise.

Ex SSgt in Air Force Security Police... I had 10 years of active duty and inactive reserve. I have a total of 20 years, includes Air Force SP, security experience. I also worked 8 years and 4 months in the Garden Center of the Sarasota Cattleman Walmart. I also took the CCNA class at Sarasota Vo-Tech, when it was still called that. I am now, since 2010 a caregiver for my Mother. While I am now a registered Republican I am more likely to vote for whichever person I believe will do a better job.. In the last presidential elections I voted Libertarian, as I the two main choices seemed to be between lying crook, or an uncouth babler who could not be trusted.
