Who said Florida was the STRANGE state?

The Police Chief of Emeryville Ca.  Chief Ken James is quoted by The Examiner as saying “A gun is an offensive weapon used to intimidate and show power,” he asserted, explaining to the audience that police officers don’t carry weapons to defend themselves, but to do their job in a “safe and effective manner.”  He is further quoted as saying that the idea of a “GUN” being a defensive weapon is a “myth”.

So is he saying their  job not to defend anyone but  “show of force” and to “intimidate” the citizenry?  This from a Chief of a Police of a City with only 8,000 people?  It must be a rather large department, compared to the size of the City, considering that fact that the Chief has 4 stars on his collar….

According to The Examiner he is the Police Chief Association’s Firearms Committee Chairman.  I did not see anything in the article saying if he had worked his way into that job, or if he was appointed to it..

At the bottom af the article they point out that his remarks have been ridiculed by “gun owners”…  personally I think what he is saying is pretty clear.  The job of his police officers is not one of protection but one of intimidation.

Am I wrong and he just misspoke?  Or does he truly see the people in his down as a group that must be “intimidated” into line?

This is the kind of attitude we must guard against…  This man would appear to fit in with the kind of people who would give us a “Police State”.

Thanks,

That Joe Guy.

Ex SSgt in Air Force Security Police... I had 10 years of active duty and inactive reserve. I have a total of 20 years, includes Air Force SP, security experience. I also worked 8 years and 4 months in the Garden Center of the Sarasota Cattleman Walmart. I also took the CCNA class at Sarasota Vo-Tech, when it was still called that. I am now, since 2010 a caregiver for my Mother. While I am now a registered Republican I am more likely to vote for whichever person I believe will do a better job.. In the last presidential elections I voted Libertarian, as I the two main choices seemed to be between lying crook, or an uncouth babler who could not be trusted.

  1. Yea, and verily, I say unto Ye —”Get rid of that Joker!!” Speaking of dinosaurs… I would have been surprised or even frightened by his remarks 20 years ago, but they seem to fit right into place here in 2013. When you take guidance from our leaders — who are mostly clueless, it seems — then this is what you get! My father once told me that I had to learn to use a gun AND to understand what it could do, before I could own one. If more people followed that rule, and were not stuck in this abyssmal age of lack of responsibility, then there would be no problems of the magnitude that we are (almost) coming to expect.
HOWEVER, that so-called Chief of Police has to go — PUL-EASE! And YES!! Guns DO kill people! And they always will. Like with cars, it is the nut behind the wheel that makes your day go from bad to worse. Only by changing attitudes of responsibility — like gang mentality — can we hope to change the downward slide of a gun-in-the-wrong-hands-dominated society… Oh yes. Why are there TV shows called “Revenge” and “Justified”, and so many others that deal with death and maiming and hurtful reasoning?? And when ws the last time you saw a video game where killing someone/something was NOT an objective??
One thing i learned while riding a bicycle: If you don’t want to hit something, DON’T LOOK at it!! If we continue to look at what we do, we are going to hit something that we shouldn’t… (Don’t believe me?? Try it, dumb-ass!)
