Will they ever fix the tax system?

Fat chance there..

Tax (Photo credit: 401(K) 2012)

Lets face it… the two groups get too much mileage out of the set up we have now…

The Democrats try to win favor with the middle, and lower class, by saying that the wealthy should pay more in taxes.  They use the term “fair share” but just what is that?

The Republicans accuse the Democrats of trying to punish success by raising the taxes on the people who make the money,  They accuse the Democrats of taking from the people who earn the money so they can win favor with the people who don’t.

Recently the Democrats have criticized Romney for taking advantage of the tax code to pay less taxes.  It is in the tax code, which is comprised of laws passed by both parties so, if the Democrats really wanted the rich to pay more in taxes, or as they say “their fair share”, the solution would be to do away with the deductions that only effect the wealthy.  Maybe even start the who system over.  Do a system “reset” and simplify the whole mess.

Part of the problem with this is that the system in place befits both parties and I doubt if Nancy Pelosi, or Harry Reid, will ever tell their accountants “pay as much tax as we can”.

The system, as it stands, allows them to raise the class warfare issue without them having to fix what is wrong and, as long as no one seems to notice that no change the the tax rates will really matter because people can bring down their NET INCOME with the use of the various deductions, there will be no change.

We need to make them understand that we know how this works, and we need to make them understand that if they really want a change in the status quo then they have to get serious about making changes and quit PLAYING US.

Party of the which part?

A Good Man Is Hard to Find
A Good Man Is Hard to Find (Photo credit: cliff1066™)

I have been writing about LIES and how you, if you want to see who is lying, must be able to look up the truth because, as I have quoted Fox Mulder, the X-Files, “the truth is out there”.

Sometime when I look at the political ads I must ask the question : how stupid to they think I am?  Then I see something like this, I will clue you in soon, and wonder : just how stupid are they?

With all the discussion about child predators, people confessing to crimes, and other things that you can find on Facebook, wouldn’t you think that people would be carefull about what they put on their page?

I guess not.

You would think that an ad that talks about Republican women for Obama would pick Republican Women…  so look at the Facebook page for Maria Ciano here, and see how Republican she really is.

Then again maybe it is just too hard to find a real Republican Woman who plans to vote for Obama, and they have to pick one, poor choice, who “lets the cat out of the bag” on Facebook..

Now there might be some truth to the matter, I mean about some Republican Women who plan to vote for Obama, but, it ain’t in this ad.

Sure, most of the political advertising seem to be filled with partial truths, or outright lies but, why does this leave us with the unpleasant feeling that we are really just voting for the “lesser of two evils”?

What happened to the day when we felt like we could vote for the better man?

For example of the “Better Man” theory : between Bill Nelson, a democrat with an excellent personal history, or Connie Mack IV, with a history of drunken fights and road rage, I would vote for …ta da… Bill Nelson and the man I would rather represent me..  Leave Connie Mack to the Beer Hall…

It is true that I might not like all of Bill Nelson’s politics but, sometimes it is the “person” you vote for and NOT the “party”.

People who vote a strict party line and don’t question their lies, are part of the reason we have to wonder which is the lesser of the two evils.

I would like to see the day when they tell us why we should vote for them and not why we should not vote for the other guy.  People who really care who they vote for should make them prove they are the better person for the job.

Try this… the next time you see your Representative try to imagine that he is YOU…  Would you like yourself?

Thanks,

That Joe Guy..

What kind of Government do we deserve?

I keep thinking that what we really should have is an honest groups of representative who are in there as a public service, not a career.

In 2010 I watched a primary debate, for Governor, between Rick Scott and Bill McCollum.  I was not impressed with either of these gentlemen, and would later vote for Alex Sink, who did impress me…  In the debate McCollum hit Scoot on two things.  The first was his running of Columbia/HCA how the company incurred the largest fines ever against a healthcare company – ever.- for Medicaid fraud, double billing, and whatever.  Scott admitted that he was in charge but said the problem was that he did not have enough auditors to oversee the way the billing was done.  In an article by the Gulf coast Business Review(?) the writer make the statement that these billing practices were common practice, so their excuse was “everyone else was doing it”.  Yeah, that make it O.K. right?  The second item that he hammered him on had to do with the lawsuits that were brought against Solantic, the second healthcare company that Scott helped found.

My point here is not about whether, or not, Rick Scott was a crook but, this : if Rick Scott was really as dishonest as Bill McCollum said he was, they why did Bill McCollum subsequently back him for Governor?  If Scott was an honest businessman then McCollum LIED about his record.  If McCollum told the truth then shouldn’t he have refused to endorse Scott?  The answer to both of these should have been a yes.

Then again, Scott was a fellow Republican running against a Democrat and, honesty, in politics, is often the first casualty.

There is a “truth in advertising” law but, not a “truth in politics”..

Let’s look at who we put in the Senate, in the same year, Marco Rubio.  It has been reported that the first thing he did on getting into office was to spend $150,000 to refurbish his office.  He had stated that he is probably the only Senator who has not paid off his student loans from 1996…  Even though his income, for several years, was in the $300,000 – $400,000 range.

This is one of the people we send to Washington to vote on our budget?  He can’t even live with in his own means.

We send the dishonest and big spenders to represent us, and then we wonder why we don’t get the kind of government we want.  Instead we get the kind of government we deserve.

So let us spend less time listening to the politicians, and more time watching what they DO.

Thank you,

That Joe Guy.

Family Values? Newt Gingrinch?

Family Values

Figuring which Republican would be the best President is rather hard.  In this day and age it seems to be expected that they will lie. You might have the political ad that “mostly” tells the truth, with the main thrust of which is said to be a falsehood.  The there are the ads put out by these groups who hide behind Action committees which are totally false.

The paper today tells about how it is estimated that Newt Gingrich will win Florida with the support of the Evangelicals and their support of Family Values….  So what are Family Values?

The first thing I would think of would be marriage, and raising a family.  That would be a man and a woman raising their family according to their values.  Parents teaching their offspring about RIGHT and WRONG.  Like why it is WRONG to lie, steal, or hurt other people.  These are not just Family Values but, they are the kind of values that are needed to keep a society on the path to growth.  At one time Marriage was seen to be an institution that was for life, and divorce was frowned upon, and was seen as a liability to public office as the divorced politician considered to be someone who could not keep his family together.  Somewhere along the path to where we are divorce has gotten to be accepted, and a divorced politician is just looked upon as another person who failed at love.  Marriage, and the marriage oath, have lost some of the meaning they once had.

I look at New Gingrich, who is appealing to the Religious Conservative, and wonder what this all says about him.  He is in his THIRD marriage, the first two of which he cheated on with women he subsequently married.  So he had TWO wedding where he lied to God.  Is that something that we would want to teach our children?

Sure he says he as repented, and will be forgiven by God, or Jehovah, but, in the meantime, and thing about this, if he has lied to Jehovah twice what makes us believe he is NOT lying to US now.

For those of you who do NOT believe marriage is sacred he might be a great candidate for President, though you might not be able to tell when he is telling the truth but, for the rest, these little slips might just indicate that he is a poor example of Integrity.

For the chief executive of our country I would expect a certain amount of Integrity, and I don’t think we will find it in New Gingrich.
